Masters in China from Bangladesh 2027: Scholarships, Fees & Admission

Southern Trip Counselling Team 8 October 20265 min read

Thinking of a master's in China after graduation? Compare 2027 eligibility, official 2026 tuition examples, CSC and university scholarships, supervisor letters, documents, timeline and the X1 visa for Bangladeshi students.

A master's in China from Bangladesh is a realistic option if you hold a bachelor's degree, are generally under 35, and can meet the English or Chinese language requirement of your programme. Most academic master's programmes in China last two to three years. Several 2026 university guides list three years. Self-funded tuition at public universities often falls between about CNY 19,500 and CNY 48,000 a year, depending on the university, subject and teaching language. A full Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC) can cover tuition, accommodation, insurance and a monthly allowance, but places are limited and competitive.

This guide to masters in China from Bangladesh is for Bangladeshi graduates and their families comparing options for 2027. It covers eligibility, scholarships, real fee examples from official 2026 admission guides, documents, supervisor letters, the timeline, the X1 visa, and how to judge whether a master's in China is the right choice for you. Fees and rules change every year, so confirm everything with the university before you apply.

Key Takeaways

  • Most Chinese universities and the CSC scholarship ask master's applicants to hold a bachelor's degree and be under 35.

  • English-taught master's programmes commonly ask for IELTS 5.5–6.0, TOEFL 80–85 or an accepted alternative. Chinese-taught programmes usually ask for HSK 4 or higher.

  • Official 2026 examples: Dalian University of Technology charged CNY 28,000–29,500 a year for English-taught master's programmes, and Central South University charged CNY 30,000–48,000 for English-taught programmes.

  • Master's applicants usually need two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors and a study plan. Many universities also value a supervisor's acceptance letter.

  • Scholarship deadlines come early, often between January and March. Self-funded deadlines can run to May or June.

  • The CSCA test is for bachelor's applicants. Master's applicants don't normally take it.

Is a Master's in China Worth It for Bangladeshi Students?

For many Bangladeshi graduates, China's appeal is the combination of research-active public universities, scholarship opportunities and tuition that is often lower than in Western countries. It is not the right fit for everyone, though.

Reasons it can work well:

  • Strong research universities in engineering, computer science, materials, agriculture, environmental science and economics.

  • Scholarships at master's level, including the CSC, provincial awards and university scholarships.

  • Laboratory-based research with a named supervisor, which can help if you plan a PhD later.

  • A growing English-taught programme range, alongside a much larger Chinese-taught range.

Things to weigh carefully:

  • Fewer English-taught options than Chinese-taught ones, especially outside engineering and business.

  • Many programmes take three years, which is longer than a typical one-year UK master's.

  • Part-time work is restricted and needs approval, so don't plan your budget around a job.

  • Daily life outside campus is easier with some Chinese, even in an English-taught programme.

Eligibility for a Master's in China

  • Degree: A completed bachelor's degree with transcripts. Some universities accept an expected-graduation certificate at the application stage. If you hold a three-year pass degree, confirm with each university that it is accepted for master's entry.

  • Age: Dalian University of Technology (DUT), Central South University (CSU) and Northwest A&F University all set "under 35" for their 2026 master's intake. The CSC also requires master's applicants to be under 35.

  • Academic record: There is no national minimum CGPA. Competitive universities and scholarships favour strong results, a relevant subject background and any research experience or publications.

  • Character and health: Universities typically ask for a non-criminal record certificate and the Foreigner Physical Examination Form.

Language requirements

  • English-taught: DUT asked for TOEFL 80+, IELTS 5.5+ or Duolingo 100+, and accepted other proof in some cases. CSU asked for IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 85, with exemptions for applicants who completed a degree taught in English.

  • Chinese-taught: The 2026/2027 CSC notice sets HSK 4 for Chinese-taught master's programmes. CSU asked for HSK 4 (260+) for science and engineering, and HSK 5 (200+) for arts, social sciences and medicine.

Master's Tuition Fees in China: 2026 Official Examples

These figures come from official 2026 admission guides. Use them to compare, not as 2027 prices.

  • Dalian University of Technology (English-taught, 3 years): CNY 28,000 a year for humanities and social sciences, and CNY 29,500 for science, technology, economics and management. The application fee was CNY 800.

  • Central South University (3 years): Chinese-taught programmes cost CNY 25,000–39,000 a year and English-taught programmes CNY 30,000–48,000, depending on the field. Medicine, art and physical education sit at the top of each range. The application fee was CNY 500.

  • Northwest A&F University (3 years): Chinese-taught programmes cost CNY 19,500 a year for social sciences and CNY 22,000 for natural sciences. The application fee was CNY 400.

On top of tuition, budget for accommodation, food, medical insurance, the visa, the medical check-up, flights and settling-in costs. DUT, for example, asked self-funded master's applicants for a bank deposit certificate of at least CNY 50,000. For a full BDT budget, read our cost of studying in China from Bangladesh guide.

Master's Scholarships in China

Chinese Government Scholarship (CSC)

The CSC is the main full scholarship. In its Type A announcement for Bangladesh, the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh listed full tuition, on-campus accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance, a monthly allowance of roughly CNY 2,500–3,500 depending on study level, and international round-trip airfare. Host universities have commonly listed CNY 3,000 a month for master's students. The last Bangladesh Type A deadline was 10 January 2026.

  • Type A (bilateral): You apply through the Chinese Embassy's channel on Campus China.

  • Type B (university programme): You apply through a university's own CSC quota. In 2026, Northwest A&F University's Type B deadline was 28 February, and CSU's high-level programme deadline was 15 February.

Other master's scholarships

  • University scholarships: Full or partial awards, such as tuition-only funding, are offered by many universities. Requirements and deadlines vary.

  • Silk Road and MOFCOM programmes: These are offered through selected universities. CSU's 2026 guide listed both, with MOFCOM covering tuition, housing, insurance, a stipend and round-trip flights.

  • Provincial and city scholarships: These are run by some provinces and cities, usually through the host university.

Scholarship holders usually have to pass an annual review to keep their funding. For Type A versus Type B strategy and a full document list, see our China scholarship guide for Bangladeshi students.

How to Choose a University and Programme

  • Start with the supervisor, not the ranking: In research-based master's programmes, your supervisor shapes your experience. Read faculty pages and recent publications in your field.

  • Check the teaching language for every course: An "international" programme is not always fully English-taught.

  • Compare the total cost: Three years of tuition plus living costs can exceed a shorter programme with higher tuition.

  • Match the scholarship route: Some universities have strong Type B quotas or university scholarships in particular fields.

  • Think about your career plan: If you plan a PhD, research output matters. If you are returning to a job in Bangladesh, check how employers in your sector view the degree.

Documents You Will Usually Need

  • A passport valid for well beyond your start date. CSU asked for more than one year of validity.

  • A notarised bachelor's degree certificate and transcripts, in English or Chinese or with notarised translations.

  • An IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo score, or an HSK certificate for Chinese-taught programmes.

  • Two recommendation letters from professors or associate professors.

  • A study plan or research proposal. The CSC asks for at least 800 words, and DUT and CSU asked for at least 1,000 words.

  • A supervisor acceptance letter, which some universities require and others treat as optional but helpful.

  • A non-criminal record certificate. In Bangladesh, this is the Police Clearance Certificate, which you can apply for through the Bangladesh Police PCC portal.

  • The Foreigner Physical Examination Form, usually valid for six months.

  • A CV, photo, bank statement (for self-funded applicants) and, at some universities, a short self-introduction video or publications.

How to Get a Supervisor Acceptance Letter

  1. Find two to four professors whose current research matches your interests.

  2. Email each one separately and briefly. Mention a specific paper or project, attach your CV and a one-page research idea, and explain why you fit their lab.

  3. Follow up politely once after about two weeks if you haven't had a reply.

  4. If a professor agrees, ask for a signed acceptance or pre-admission letter on university letterhead, in the format the university or CSC requires.

Never pay anyone for a "guaranteed" acceptance letter. Universities can check whether a letter is genuine, and a false document can end your application.

Step-by-Step Application Process

  1. Assess your profile: degree, CGPA, age, language scores, research experience and budget.

  2. Shortlist programmes: confirm the teaching language, duration, fees and deadline from each 2027 admission guide.

  3. Contact supervisors early, ideally three to five months before scholarship deadlines.

  4. Prepare documents: notarisation, recommendation letters, study plan, Police Clearance Certificate and medical form.

  5. Apply: use Campus China for the CSC and the university's online portal for self-funded or university scholarship routes.

  6. Interview: some departments hold online interviews or written tests.

  7. Get your admission notice and JW201/JW202 form, then apply for the X1 visa.

2027 Master's Timeline

This timeline is based on the 2026 cycle. Check the 2027 dates once they are published.

  • October–December 2026: Shortlist programmes, take IELTS or HSK, contact supervisors and request recommendation letters.

  • December 2026–February 2027: CSC Type A and many Type B deadlines are expected in this window, based on the 2026 cycle.

  • March–June 2027: Self-funded and some university scholarship deadlines. CSU and Northwest A&F closed self-funded applications on 31 May 2026, and DUT accepted applications until June.

  • July–August 2027: Admission results, JW201/JW202 and the X1 visa.

  • September 2027: Arrival and registration.

Student Visa (X1) from Bangladesh

Master's students need an X1 visa, which is for study longer than 180 days. According to the Chinese Embassy in Bangladesh, you complete the online application on the Chinese Visa Application Service Center website and submit your passport at the centre in Dhaka. You need the JW201 or JW202 form, the original admission letter, and either scholarship proof or a bank statement showing at least USD 2,500 a year. After arrival, you must apply for a residence permit, normally within 30 days. For the full checklist, see our China student visa guide from Bangladesh.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Missing scholarship deadlines in January to March while waiting for final semester results.

  • Sending the same generic email to dozens of professors.

  • Writing a study plan that doesn't match the supervisor's research area.

  • Getting recommendation letters from people below the required academic rank.

  • Applying only for the CSC with no self-funded or university scholarship backup.

  • Trusting anyone who promises guaranteed admission, a guaranteed scholarship or a guaranteed visa.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Bangladeshi students do a master's in China?

Yes. Bangladeshi bachelor's graduates can apply to Chinese universities for self-funded or scholarship-funded master's programmes, subject to each university's age, academic and language requirements.

What is the age limit for a master's in China?

Most university guides and the CSC require master's applicants to be under 35.

How much does a master's in China cost?

In official 2026 guides, tuition ranged from about CNY 19,500 a year for some Chinese-taught programmes to CNY 48,000 for some English-taught medical programmes. Living costs, accommodation and insurance are extra.

Is IELTS mandatory for a master's in China?

Not always. English-taught programmes usually accept IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo, and some accept proof of a previous English-taught degree. Chinese-taught programmes ask for HSK instead.

What CGPA do I need for a CSC scholarship?

The CSC doesn't publish a fixed CGPA cut-off. Selection is competitive, so a strong academic record, a focused study plan, good recommendation letters and a supervisor's support all strengthen an application.

How long is a master's degree in China?

Usually two to three years. Many 2026 guides, including DUT, CSU and Northwest A&F, list three years for their master's programmes.

Can I work while studying a master's in China?

Part-time work and internships are tightly regulated and need approval from your university and the immigration authorities. Don't rely on work income to pay your fees.
